Your settings — auto-off length, thermal and battery cutoff levels, and the other preferences — are stored locally on your Mac using the standard macOS preferences system. They never leave the device, and they are removed when you delete the app.
Insomniac makes no network requests at all until you turn on the optional Use local weather setting — off on a fresh install — which folds the outdoor temperature into its advice about how long a session is safe. With that setting on:
Nothing else is sent, nothing is attached to an identity, and no result is stored. Turn Use local weather off and Insomniac makes no network requests at all — the safety advisory still works, using your Mac's thermal state, power source, and system load.
Those three services are independent of Insomniac and have their own privacy practices, linked above.
The version downloaded from this site checks for new releases using Sparkle. That check fetches a small update file from this site (insomniac.ziyarex.com); if an update exists, the download itself comes from GitHub Releases. It sends no information about you or your Mac beyond what any ordinary web request necessarily reveals, and it does not identify you. You can turn it off in Settings → General → Automatic updates. The Mac App Store version does not include this — the App Store handles its updates.
To do its job the app reads system state: thermal level, power source and battery percentage, whether the lid is closed, whether an external display is attached, and which apps are currently holding your Mac awake. All of this is read through Apple's standard APIs, used only to show you what's happening and to run the safety cutoffs, and none of it is transmitted or stored.
Separate from the app: this site (insomniac.ziyarex.com) uses PostHog for visitor analytics, which records page views, clicks and session replays of the pages themselves. That is about browsing this site, not about using the app — Insomniac on your Mac contains no analytics SDK of any kind, and nothing the app does is reported anywhere. If you would rather not be measured while reading this, browser tracking protection or an ad blocker stops it, and the download works regardless.
Insomniac is a utility with no user-generated content, no messaging, and no data collection, so there is nothing to collect from anyone of any age.
If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date. Given the app collects nothing, any change is likely to be a clarification rather than a new practice.
